With resumes in hand, more than 100 students gathered at an Inaugural Career Fair on March 22, 2012 on the third floor of the SolBridge International School of Business hoping to get their foot in the door of a Korean company.

Under the direction and auspices of the Career Development Center, 14 companies attended this event. Some of the companies which attended included ADT Caps, CJ Group, Samsung Securities, Yuhan Kimberly, BOSCH, GS Caltex, Emerson Processing Management Korea Ltd, Kyerong Construction Industrial Co. Ltd, Lock n Lock and Pieroth Korea.

SolBridge’s Career Development Center (CDC) targets domestic and international companies to find employment and internships for their students. Additionally, the CDC provides counseling and coaching through various means. It organizes job seminars and informs students about various companies and their recruitment process. This event assisted companies attending to discover internationally talented students who are seeking for careers in Korea and beyond.

Although the companies were looking for students to work in Korea, at least one student was looking elsewhere for employment. Ammar Malik, a student from Pakistan saw it as a unique opportunity to see if any of the companies had their sights in investing in his country or in the region.

“I talked with the representatives of two companies and told them how I can help them with connections in the region,” Malik said. “This career fair was very useful for me.”

Keeping in line with SolBridge’s vision of “Educating the Next Generation of Thought Leaders’” which focuses on five areas—global perspective, social responsibility, cross-cultural competence, creative management foundation and Asian expertise—the career fair also presented an opportunity for freshmen and sophomores to plan out their curriculum after listening to what some companies are looking for.

“I came here because I was curious about what these companies are looking for,” said Sophomore Soan “Erin” Jung. “I think it’ll be useful for me when it comes to planning what kind of classes to take.”
