Catching up with Prof. Jaywon Lee

We had a quick Q&A with Professor Jaywon Lee, who recently joined SolBridge as an Associate Professor of Accounting (Financial Accounting, Introduction to Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis). He has over nine years of experience as an accounting professor in prestigious universities including KAIST College of Business and Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Business School in Singapore. He also has various publications in top journals like Journal of Business Ethics and Journal of Applied Business Research. His Research areas include Accounting, Climate, Change, and Health. He has a Ph.D in Accounting from Columbia University and B.S in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley. We are delighted to have him at SolBridge.


What three words best describe you and why?

Change, Passion, Vision.

I passionately try to study change, especially the change in business environments, and set visions.

What do you do when you're not teaching?

I spend much time doing research and projects. During my free time, I love to travel. 

How did you choose to study Finance and accounting?

The study of numbers and money fascinates me.

What qualities make a great professor?

Love for the subject and the students. And the energy to continue loving.

What is your first impression about SolBridge?

I felt like I was not in Korea due to its global atmosphere.

How would you like to contribute to SolBridge's future?

Pursue academic excellence in research and teaching. Consult students in career planning. Establish professional network with students/alumni.

What is the best thing about being a Professor?

Setting my own research agenda and the flexibility to set my own schedule.

What is the one thing students can do to be successful in your class?

Be efficient when you study. Don’t sit at your desk for long hours while concentrating only for a short period.

Any word of encouragement to SolBridgers?

Be motivated. Motivation will get you very far.
